The story, set in a dystopia in 2045, follows protagonist Wade Watts on his search for an Easter egg in a worldwide virtual reality game, the discovery of which would lead him to inherit the game creator's fortune. This book was a ton of fun and took me back to my early days of computing; late 70s, early 80s, as well as the Atari 2600 days. No spoiler about the plot but note that the movie glossed over the relationship of the main characters, it was really a let down, but the book? One of my favorites, so fun.
